Friends of Animals and City Come to Agreement to Run New Shelter

12-20-09 Coffeyville Kansas
By now you might have heard that Coffeyville Friends of Animals, Inc and the City of Coffeyville have come to an agreement where in CFA will run the daily operations of the new animal shelter built by the City. CFA wants all of our friends, supporters and donators to understand that our future depends on the needs of the unwanted or stray animals in our service area and the donations received. As with all non-profit organizations CFA still needs tax deductible donations to operate the shelter.

The past couple of years CFA has faced some changes, setbacks and disappointments but has continued to put the animals first. In putting the animals first, CFA decided that with our limited funds and volunteers; starting with the shelter provided by the City of Coffeyville would benefit the animals best. CFA continues to work towards our mission and carry out our goals from a facility that serves the immediate needs of a wounded community. Our website: http://www.cfaks.org/ will provide future updates.

CFA has appointed Kelly Vogel as Shelter Director to run the daily operations of the City Shelter. Kelly will report directly to CFA Board of Directors and follow guidelines set forth. Kelly comes to us via Kansas City where she was an Animal Control Officer and ran their shelter. Her friendly personality and concern for animals makes her an excellent choice. Please help us welcome her to our area!

Volunteers are needed for the shelter; some duties include: walking dogs, playing with cats or kittens, cuddling puppies, brushing dogs & cats, sweeping floors, feeding and watering pet animals, etc. Volunteers will not be responsible for cleaning cages or litter pans. If you would like to positively impact an animals' stay at the shelter please call 620-252-6060 or Kelly at 620-251-2719.

A wish list has been established for the shelter: large or apt refrigerator, mini fridge, microchip & scanner, hanging file folders, 1/3 cut manila file folders, general office supplies, 1 desk, computer, monitor, keyboard & mouse, printer/fax/copy machine, copy paper, Emergency Medical Kit (Human), City of Coffeyville streetmap, mop & mop bucket, catch pole, net, rabbit cages, bird cage, blankets, cotton or other cloth small washable rugs, cat beds (washable), towels, small plastic litter pans, 2 - 45galRubbermaid trash containers, newspapers, cleaning supplies (allergy free), bleach, 4” or 5” stainless steel bowls, non-tipable bowls, chew toys, kitten food, cat food, puppy food, dog food, puppy formula, kitten formula, leashes& collars, pet hair brushes, etc. Any of these items may be delivered to Jan-L's Flowers & Gifts at 809 S. Elm Street Coffeyville, KS. Any questions on an item or to see if it has already been donated please call the shelter or Kelly.

In closing CFA apologizes for not providing prompt information and to all those who were misinformed. Unfortunately, CFA is a volunteer organization with funds provided by donations only. All Board Members have a full time job, most have children and other things in life that distract us from fulfilling every wish of CFA. Anyone is invited to become a member of CFA or volunteer even the minuscule amount of time they have left over. Luckily, animals are almost always happy to see a human and one little pet on the head can make their day!

Thank you to all our supporters, volunteers and donators up to this point! CFA cannot express how grateful we are for each of you! CFA has bright hopes for the future and feels with the encouragement of the community that quote: “you can tell a lot about a town by how it treats its animals” will soon be interpreted that Coffeyville is putting its animals first as responsible pet owners, reducing the number of unwanted and strayed animals, providing those animals a pleasant shelter visit, and offering a dignified and humane end of life.
